Hi Andrew, thanks for your views. Here are my thoughts. While it's not yet happening, a Kobe-Lebron Finals match up isn't a far-fetch idea in the near future considering that both players are competitive and their respective ball clubs are doing everything they can to lift up the team's competitiveness as well.
Of course, Kobe had the headstart, having been in the league since 1996 and having learned the game of the pros for that long, he has honed his skills to become who he is today. As for Lebron, his experiences in the '07 Finals debacle as well as last year's nightmarish Playoffs ending were battle scars that could make him better as an athlete and be a motivation for him to furher improve while drawing the best out of his teammates.
A rivalry? It's possible for sure, but for me, the Cavs better get rid of Shaq soon because he is a deadweight to the team's offense considering that his presence in the court can slow down Cleveland's supposed high-octane offense.
If the Cavs want to compete at a high-level, something they did last season, they better get a quality center who could clog the lanes against slashers from the opposing team. That way, Lebron and his guard-mates Mo Williams and Delonte West can jumpstart the Cav's up-tempo play.
Then, the Cavs could perhaps, start that rivalry against Kobe and the Lakers. :)

I do agree with you that Bird-Magic was a great rivalry. They truly did take basketball to a new level. However, when it comes to Kobe and LeBron, I'm not sure if I can title that a "rivalry" just yet. They are the games two best players without question, but they haven't gone head-to-head like Magic and Bird did. I think until these two players meet in the finals and it is a great series, I don't think it is quite a rivalry. I'm not sure if there will ever be a chance for it to be a rivalry either. This season if the Lakers and Cavs met up in the finals, I truly believe the Cavs would only win one game. With Kobe aging as well, he has a window of about 3 or 4 more years to win rings. I would like to know what you think about my opinion on this.
